The Bay of Bengal Could Be the Key to a Free and Open Indo-Pacific

Anu Anwar, Reischauer Center Research Associate, published a commentary piece with War on the Rocks titled, “The Bay of Bengal could be the Key to a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”

In the article, Anwar highlights how the Bay of Bengal, which is situated between South and Southeast Asia, is becoming one of the prime battlegrounds for advancing the Free and Open Indo-Pacific strategy. Anwar points to such key factors like the growing economic, infrastructure, and security significance of the region for Asia and the globe. Furthermore, Anwar discusses how the Bay of Bengal will become a testing ground for an emerging multipolar world order and stresses the importance of developing governance frameworks that can integrate rising powers in the region while furthering Free and Open Indo-Pacific strategic goals.
