On March 17, the Reischauer Center hosted a discussion, moderated by Dr. William Brooks, featuring Ms. Margot Carrington, Former Minister Counselor for Public Affairs at the アメリカ大使館 U.S. Embassy Tokyo.
In her presentation, Carrington reflected on her 24-year experience working in public diplomacy and shared her insights on the challenges posed by the large U.S. security presence in Japan. She highlighted various events impacting the bilateral relationship, including the 2011 Tohoku Triple Disaster; the 2016 visit to Hiroshima by President Obama; and the election that same year of the “America First” Trump Administration.
Following her talk, Carrington held a Q&A session with members of the Reischauer Center and students at SAIS afterward where she shared her advice with students wanting to get more involved in public diplomacy.
