On Tuesday, September 11, 2018 Dr. Kent Calder and the Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies and Vice Dean of Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies | SAIS hosted Dr. Eunjung Lim, assistant professor at 立命館大学/Ritsumeikan University, to give a seminar on US-South Korea nuclear energy cooperation.
Dr. Lim explained how the revised “123” nuclear energy agreement enabled joint research on small nuclear reactors and alternative methods of reprocessing, technologies which could revitalize each country’s stagnant nuclear sectors. She also explained how the growing prominence of China and Russia in the global nuclear energy market presents a challenge to international nuclear proliferation safeguards.
