The Japan Studies Department would like to express our warm congratulations to our class of 2020! This year, we have one PhD, 3 MIPP concentrators, 6 MA concentrators, and one minor. The class of 2020 has shown tremendous achievement and resilience during their time at SAIS, and we are so proud of all of them. Dr. Calder wanted to share the message below with his students to express his well wishes:
“This year’s Japan Studies class is one of the largest and the most inquisitive in the sixteen years I have been at SAIS. It has faced tremendous challenges, especially before and after Spring Break, as COVID-19 was emerging, but has kept its spirit up, and distinguished itself in many ways. I was glad that so many could participate in our virtual Graduation Reception, and thereby meet alumni from across the Pacific. Looking forward to seeing everyone back here at SAIS, in Tokyo, and in the diverse locations and callings that Japan Studies alumni , and all SAIS alumni interested in Japan, find themselves around the world.
With all best wishes,
Kent Calder”
Congratulations to the Class of 2020! We trust that your work ethic and capabilities will take you far, and we cannot wait to see what your futures hold! 💛
