Mongolia: Implications for the Broader Security Mechanism in Northeast Asia

On Wednesday, Feb. 6th, the Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies sponsored the talk “Mongolia: Implications for the Broader Security Mechanism in Northeast Asia.” Mr. Dorjsuren Nanjin, Director of MINASS (Mongolian Institute of Northeast Asian Security and Strategy), spoke about Mongolia’s role as an interlocutor within the Northeast Asian security region.

A key part of Mongolian cultural diplomacy is the annual Ulaanbaatar Dialogue, which includes delegates from both North and South Korea, Mongolia, Japan, Russia, China, and the United States to speak about shared concerns such as energy security and infrastructure. Dr. Alicia Campi and Amb. Piper Campbell also brought much to the conversation concerning Mongolia’s regional role, highlighting concerns over Mongolia’s obligations to its neighbors and its recent inclusion on the FATF’s grey list.
