The role of regional cooperation and integration in relation to internal stability in Afghanistan and Central Asia.

The Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies hosted a panel at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies | SAIS on May 2, 2018 that discussed the role of regional cooperation and integration in relation to internal stability in Afghanistan and Central Asia.


The panelists gave their views on the current situation in Afghanistan and offered suggestions on the ways in which America, as well as Afghanistan’s regional partners, could play a constructive role. They discussed the increased regional cooperation in transport infrastructure and energy trade in Central Asia and Afghanistan as well as the role of other region players including China, Russia, and Iran.

Moderated by Dr. Kent Calder, the panel featured Amb. Earl Anthony Wayne, Amb. Robin Raphel, Amb. Richard Olson, and Amb. Hamdullah Mohib. Special thanks to Mr. Rohullah Osmani, Visiting Scholar at the Resichauer Center, for his assistance in organizing this event.
